Medical astrology – How Vedic astrology connects to medicine? Part II

Continuation of the previous Blog……

We saw in our last Blog that increasing affliction to a Rashi (sign), house and house lord, causes increasing risk of injury to the body part indicated by that combination. If many factors in a chart pointing to an organ are under stress, it is a certainty that it will be injured. If in a horoscope, the ninth house and its lord are afflicted by more than one malefic, it is a certainty that the thigh bone or Femur will be injured. In addition to this if Sagittarius and Jupiter are also afflicted, it is guaranteed that there will be a severe trauma to the Femur itself or to the two joints it connects to – the hip and the knee.

This concept is open ended and can be extended to any body part. If the 11th house and its lord are afflicted and at the same time, sign Aquarius and Saturn are also distressed, damage to the auditory organs and loss of hearing is certain to occur.

In a female horoscope, the fifth house represents the children and child bearing capacity. By extension it represents uterus and the reproductive system. If the fifth house and its lord are afflicted and Leo and sun are also connected to planets like Mars and Saturn, natural delivery of a child becomes suspect. A strong Mars aspecting the fifth house/lord is seen to cause complications during child birth. Medical intervention becomes a must in such cases. If the affliction is caused by Saturn and Rahu, there are undiagnosed causes for infertility and self abortion.

The use of Sudarshan Chakra method

We have seen so far the genesis of disease in a horoscope. If the planetary placements indicating a disease occur in the Moon and Sun chart as well, the event will take place with even greater vehemence. The simplest example of this is a chart in which sun and Moon are placed together in Lagna. What ever happens in the life of such a person, will happen with full force. The good and bad will come to pass with full intensity.

The example of sun and Moon both occupying Lagna is a basic one. In real life one needs to examine the sun and Moon charts separately and see if the indications of an event in the birth chart are echoing in these two as well.

The correlation between Lagna and disease

Lagna in Vedic astrology is the most important part of the horoscope as it represents the body. Without body we are just an electromagnetic entity with successive layers of soul, causal and astral bodies (please refer to Blog Happiness through Yoga- Sep 20) It is the flesh and bones body which makes us humans and allow us to perform Karma. Lagna thus embodies our whole being.

When ever a planet is placed in a Lagna, he becomes an effective representative of whatever he is significator of. If that appears to be a mouthful, let us digest it piecemeal in the next Blog.

Medical astrology – How Vedic astrology connects to medicine? Part I

Vedic astrology assigns the twelve signs to successively represent all parts of human body. Starting from Aries, the first sign represents head. Taurus the second sign represents face, Gemini the shoulders and lungs. Cancer the fourth sign stands for the chest and so on. Here is a complete list.

Aries: Head, Taurus: Face, Gemini: Lungs, Cancer: Chest, Leo: Stomach and heart, Virgo: Intestines and kidneys, Libra: reproductive system, Scorpio: Scrotum and testicles, Sagittarius: Hips, Capricorn: Knees, Aquarius: lower legs and Pisces: Feet.

For Taurus Lagna, things will become some what different. Now the houses and the Rashi are different so one will have to be careful in deciphering the results. The results of the house, the Rashi and the Rashi lord will all have to be merged together.

The signs of Zodiac are termed as Rashi in Sanskrit and this is the term we shall use henceforth. If a Rashi and its lord (Ruling planet) are afflicted, the body part corresponding to it will develop problems. Let us define affliction in some detail before we proceed further. Saturn, Mars, Rahu and Ketu are natural malefic planets and when ever these combine with a Rashi or Rashi lord there is a problem generated. In addition to this, the lords of the sixth, eighth and 11th houses also cause negative results. This is called affliction. There may be some cases where only the Rashi is afflicted. In other instances, both Rashi and its lord may be afflicted in which case it becomes more serious. A still worse scenario is where the affliction is caused by a number of malefics.

Let us understand it through an example. Think of an imaginary horoscope with Gemini Lagna (ascendant) and Rashi Lord Mercury placed in the 8th house. Saturn is placed in the sixth house in Scorpio, while Mars is in the Ascendant. Mars afflicts the ascendant as well as Mercury through his 8th house aspect. Saturn also aspects Mercury with his 3rd house aspect from the sixth house. Mercury is thus in a bad shape. He and his Rashi are both afflicted by two prime malefic planets while he himself is placed in the 8th house. In this case there will be severe health problems connected to body parts ruled by Mercury. Lungs and intestines both become prone to complications.

The Lagna rules over the head so Mercury as the Lagna Lord wears more than one hat and represents the head as well. Mars is the planet of injury so it is certain that there will be a trauma to the head. Since Lagna represents the early part of one’s life, the injury will take place in infancy or early childhood.

Similarly if the second house and the second lord are both afflicted the injury will be to the face and neck. This scheme can be further extended to all houses.

To be continued…..

Prashna Shastra - Horary astrology Part - II

continuation of the previous Blog....

The time of asking question is the most important information in constructing a chart and for this purpose one has to be extra careful in determining it. For all practical purposes, the time at which a question is communicated to the astrologer is the right time for our purpose. A question asked is just like a baby delivered. Let us take a case where a client thinks of a question at 12 AM on a Friday night, but is able to convey it to an astrologer only at 9 AM Monday morning. The effective time of this question is thus 9 AM and not 12 AM.

A relevant analogy would be of a pregnant woman who reports to a maternity ward for delivery but has to wait because she is not yet ready. The delivery takes place after a few hours, and the time at which the umbilical cord is severed becomes the time of birth of the baby regardless of when she first visited the hospital.

We humans are curious people and our thought processes are always throwing new questions at us. Some of these questions may be innocuous and bland but some may be really important. Consider the case of a country being invaded by another. It is of paramount importance to find out the outcome of the war. Well being of a large number of people depends upon it. Horary astrology was therefore initially supported by kings who could afford to employ a competent astrologer to advise them about a number of policy decisions. This is one of the interesting facts of ancient India, the political policy was always influenced by what the horoscope of the country and the king was revealing.

It is not exactly clear who first applied the laws of Vedic astrology to ascertain answers to questions popping up in the mind of Kings and emperors. There are references to it in the famous epic Mahabharat. We know for certain that comprehensive literary works on the subject have appeared from that time onwards.

There is a section of western astrologers who believe that it was brought to India by the Greeks and Babylonians. They need to study the works of Varaha Mihir before making such outrageous comments. Intellectual arrogance should be grounded in facts and not in make believe scenarios. Horary astrology predates the Tajik or Greek system by a few thousand years. Works of Sage Parashar and Garg are the pillar of Hindu astrology, and both date back at least 5500 years if not more.

The range and scope of Prashna or Horary astrology

There is no sphere of human thought which remains untouched by Prashna. It effortlessly answers all questions pertaining to self, wealth, siblings, real estate, children, enemies, disease and debts. It also precise answers to queries about marriage, relationships, parents, profession, financial gains and foreign travel. In short its major limitation is its range which is limited to the next twelve months from the time the question is asked. The other limitation as mentioned above is its ability to answer only one well defined question.

Prashna Shastra - Horary astrology Part - I

Vedic astrology has three branches to make predictions about personal life of people, about choosing the best time for doing things and to find answers for questions that pop up in people’s mind. These are called Jatak, Muhurta and Prashna.

Prashna is unique because unlike in the first two systems mentioned above, in Prashna it is the astrologer who records the time and place of the question.

What is a horary horoscope?
Let us say that you have a question in mind and you visit an astrologer to get some answers. He notes down the time when the question is asked and makes a horoscope based on it. This chart is called a horary chart and predictions based on it are pertinent only to the question asked by you. If you asked about your financial prospects, it will predict it accurately. It however can not be used to answer question about your love life and relationships.

It is truly amazing how accurately this chart works. It reads the mind of the person asking the question.
This wonderful system of prediction has some limitations as well. It can answer questions only for a period of next twelve months. It can not be used to make long term predictions.
Another limitation is its inability to predict if the same question is asked repeatedly. For example, if some one asks me if he is likely to win a lottery and the answer comes out in the negative, asking this question again after some time from the same or different astrologer will not give correct answer. It is takes for granted that I did my job correctly the first time.

Does it have any logic?

The logic behind a horary chart is the same as for Vedic astrology itself. One’s thinking is closely influenced by the planetary movement in the zodiac. Events are only seemingly random and they always fall in a pattern. The twelve houses in a Vedic astrology chart represent all the facets of human existence. By selecting the house to which the question is linked to, we can find the planet which has the most intimate bearing on it.
The ascendant always represents the person who asks the question. All that is left then is to examine the relationship between the lord of the ascendant and the planet which is linked to the question. The rules for this examination are very precise and well laid down. That does away with any randomness.

The time of question
We saw above that a horary chart is raised for the time of asking question. Let us take a case where the question is of a highly personal nature and can not be asked privately in the first meeting with the astrologer. The questioner makes a second visit after a while and this time around is able to ask it. The time when the actual question is asked is the correct time.

This is true of a question asked over the phone as well.

How Is November 2009 For You?

The delineations given below are general in nature and are based on your Moon sign. This is the sign where the Moon was at the time of your birth. It is called Rashi in Sanskrit. We shall use this term frequently in this article.
These predictions will not work for the sun sign based on the date and month of your birth. If you do not know your Rashi (moon sign), please send your birth details at rajset@indian-vedicastrology.com

Sagittarius
Mars and Ketu occupy the eighth house and  cause health problems. Chronic patients may face some aggravation of present ailments. This combination also causes a mismatch between expenses and income with the former outstripping the latter. Snags in smoothly running affairs are likely to dampen your spirits. Situation improves after seventeenth, and domestic happiness takes a turn for better. A welcome news from a far away place will give much encouragement.

Capricorn
Professional growth remains average. Money situation remains comfortable despite setbacks. You spend money on an expensive gadget or item of luxury. Some nagging worries connected to family keep you tense. Situation improves after the seventeenth and enough money remains available to keep you going.

Aquarius
Mars causes increased expenses and static income. Professional and personal complications keep you on edge. Chances of a financial gain are bright around the seventeenth. A chance encounter can become very interesting. Even otherwise your personal life is happy. Women get a raw deal compared to men.

Pisces
Rashi lord Jupiter is in fall and remains so until mid December. This gives diminished returns despite very hard work. Most of your time is spent in needless running around. Stomach and eye related complaints can cause discomfort. Expenditure soars but the silver lining is the timely help from a friend.

These predictions will not work for the sun sign based on the date and month of your birth. If you do not know your Rashi (moon sign), please send your birth details at rajset@indian-vedicastrology.com

Leo
Sun transits his sign of debilitation, and this has a direct bearing on your well being. Business may be sluggish and same is true of your health. Thing will not pan out as envisaged and you will feel angry, at times listless and peaked. Things change after the second half as sun moves to Scorpio. You are drawn towards spirituality. Welcome news from abroad will cheer you up.

Virgo
Mercury transits the second house at the beginning of this period and ratchets up the professional and social activity. Money keeps flowing in, though with some restrictions. Your contacts abroad are helpful in expanding your interests there. Saturn is currently in Virgo and makes you work harder than usual. This coupled with lack of sleep and rest makes you irritable.

Libra
Sun and Mercury are congregated in this sign at the beginning of the month. This causes excessive running around and consequent wear and tear on the body. On third Venus enters Libra and begins her magic. Gains in social stature, sudden monetary gains and unexpected promotional avenues make you very happy.

Scorpio

Rashi lord Mars transits his house of debilitation leading to frustrations, domestic bickering and lowered vitality. There is however a distinct leaning towards spirituality and religion. Welcome news from abroad brings cheer. Situation improves substantially after 17th leading to financial gains and contacts with people of influence.

Aries

Rashi Lord Mars transits the sign of his debilitation. This entails hard work to earn enough money for sustenance. There is a nagging worry about a loved one in the family. After 17th, expect needless running around and eye related discomforts. Projects nearing completion may develop snags leading to mental tension.

Taurus
This is a month of mixed fortunes. The first half sees the completion of a stalled project, but your expenses outstrip your income. A meeting with a dear one in the second half brings much cheer. You spend more than you intend to. Needless arguments with kids are likely to cause mental anguish.

Gemini
Saturn transits the fourth house and causes rifts, needless running around and increased expenditure. Situation improves after 19th when you spend money on amusements and entertainment. A religious ceremony is also likely. Success in examinations and resultant enthusiasm will keep you happy.

Cancer

Jupiter‘s seventh house aspects on this Rashi brings about professional gains and opportunities for promotion. There is an increase in mental tension and aggression caused by combined transit of Mars and Ketu until the 17th of the month. This also causes some illness or physical discomfort leading to increased expenses. The end of the month sees you performing some auspicious ceremonies.

Rahu and Ketu - Origin and transit Part III

I had earlier written two Blogs about the origin and transit of Rahu and Ketu. This is the third in the series and was held back as the transit begins only in November. We are now sufficiently close to November 03, so here it is.

Transit of Rahu through Sagittarius from November 03, 2009 to May 14, 2011
Aries

Slow moving projects take off. Purchase of a car is likely. You will spend money to obtain comforts and happiness.
Taurus
Snags develop in profession and business, but you generate enough income to maintain your life style.
Gemini
Professional life is adversely affected. A quarrel with some one close to you causes unhappiness. Finances remain a matter of concern.
Cancer
Despite very hard work your income lags behind your expenses.
Leo
Your luck refuses to back your plans. Financial problems create problems that can’t be disclosed.
Virgo
Relationship with immediate family comes under strain. Expenses exceed income.
Libra
Economic gains and chances of travel abroad bring happiness. This is reinforced by arrival of favorable news.
Scorpio
Success despite initial hurdles is indicated. You spend money to make things happen and succeed in doing so.
Sagittarius
A quarrel with a close relation is likely to cause anguish. There is mismatch between income and expenditure.
Capricorn
Complications and hurdles exist but enough money trickles in to meet regular expenses. This will remain so throughout the duration of transit.
Aquarius
Excellent period which brings financial gains and chances foreign travel. The expenses naturally go up but its all for good.
Pisces.
Snags in smoothly running projects are possible. Fruitless running around and decrease in comforts and happiness is likely.

These results are only indicative and will be modified by the transit of other planets. The planetary periods running in the horoscope will also alter these results.

Sade Sati, What It Is And How Much Damage Can It Do?

Final part of Sade Sati article ......

Shani Charan Vichar – Consideration of Saturn’s feet.

Transit of Saturn from one house to the next is a momentous affair. Shani Charan Vichar seeks to decipher the results. As always, we shall consider the transit of Saturn from natal Moon.

If on the day of transit, Saturn comes to a house where he is in the first, sixth or eleventh house from Moon, he is considered to have feet of gold.

In second, fifth and ninth houses, Saturn enjoys the feet of silver.

In the third, seventh and tenth houses his feet are of copper.

In the fourth, eighth and twelfth houses he has feet of iron.

For example Saturn has transited to Virgo on September 09, 2009. Keeping this in mind, the twelve Lunar signs will get different 'Paya' or feet of Saturn.

For Aries, Saturn will fall in the sixth house, so For Aries Saturn will have the 'Paya' of gold for the next 30 months. The results for gold feet are adverse and are given as domestic turmoil, strained relations with extended family and losses in profession. Health also suffers.

For Taurus, Saturn will fall in the fifth house so his 'Paya' will be of Silver. The results for silver feet are favorable and Taurus people will enjoy gains from real estate deals, favors from well placed people in the government and happy times in the company of friends and relations.

For Gemini, Saturn occupies the fourth house and his 'Paya' will be of iron. Gemini born will therefore experience problems created by opponents, ill health to spouse, financial setbacks and fruitless journeys.

For cancer since Saturn falls in the third house, the 'Paya' will be of copper. They will receive favorable news, success in pet projects, gain in status and comfortable finances. We can thus delineate results for all twelve houses.

-->
Shani Charan Vichar
Transit position
Paya

 Results

1st, 6th, 11th from Janma Chandra
Gold
Strained relations with extended family, financial drain, false accusations.
2nd, 5th,  9th from Janma Chandra
Silver
Gains of/from real estate, smooth relations with extended family, gains from government.
3rd, 7th, 10th from Janma Chandra
Copper
Receipt of happy news, success in all spheres, gains from government, financial prosperity.
4th, 8th, 12th from Janma Chandra
Iron
Domestic troubles and unhappiness, Losses in business and profession, unsound health and strained relations with relatives. Enemies create troubles.

When deciphering the results of Saturn’s transit, it is important to modify the good or bad results in the light of results given by 'Paya' consideration. This will add to accuracy of predictions.

Above is a table summing up all results.
Concluded.

Sade Sati, What It Is And How Much Damage Can It Do?

Continuation of the previous Blog.....

We have discovered so far that Sade Sati indeed has the potential to cause problems, but whether that happens or not depends upon a number of other factors. We have seen that certain Rashis (signs) suffer less than the others due to Nakshatra effects. If Saturn gets a high Ashtak Varga strength, then too the adverse results are kept in check. A Vedha to Saturn also nullifies his bad results. Some lucky individuals will have all these factors working for them and will breeze through Sade Sati. It is certain that for some people all the factors mentioned above will go against them and they will suffer the most. Others will experience varying results.

It is seen that people with exalted Saturn are some how protected to a great extent from adverse transits of Saturn including fifth and 8th house transit. Those born with Venus and Saturn ruled ascendants and Rashis also experience reduced effects.

Who is currently experiencing Sade Sati?

Those born with Moon in Libra are in the beginning of their Sade Sati, and have a full compliment of seven and a half years to go. People born with Moon in Virgo are in the middle, and have to wait five years for it to end. Those with Moon in Cancer are free of this transit and their Sade Sati is over. They can look forward to a happy and prosperous period for next two and a half years.

What are the remedies?

Ancient Rishis have left us a long list of measures that can be adopted to reduce the adverse results of Saturn's transits. Here is short list.
Daily recitation of Pipplad Uvaach (sayings of Rishi Pipplad) is a potent remedy.

Pipplaad Uvaach

नमस्ते कोण संस्थाय पिङ्गलाय नमोस्तुते l
नमस्ते बभ्रु रूपाय कृष्णाय च नमोस्तुते ll

NAMAS-TE KONE SANSTHAAY PINGLAAYE NAMO-STU-TE

NAMAS-TE BABHRU ROOPA-YE KRISHNAAYE NAMO-STU-TE

नमस्ते रौद्र देहाय नमस्ते चान्तकाय च l
नमस्ते यम संज्ञाय नमस्ते शौरये विभो ll

NAMAS-TE RODRA DEHAA-YE NAMAS-TE CHAANT-KA-YE CH

NAMASTE YAM SANG-YA-YE NAMASTE SHAUR-YE VIBHO

नमस्ते मन्द संज्ञाय शनैश्चर नमोस्तुते l
प्रसादं कुरु देवेश दीनस्य प्रणतस्य च ll

NAMAS-TE MAND SANG-YA-YE SHAN-AISH-CHAR NAMOSTU-TE

PRASADAMKURU DEVESH DEENASYA PRANA-TASYA CH

Chanting of Saturn Mantra 10, 28 or 108 times (depending upon one's convenience) is very beneficial. Saturn Mantra is "OM PRAAM PREEM PROM SAHA SHANAISH CHARAYE NAMAHA" 108 chants are definitely better than 10 or 28.

Fasting on Saturdays is another sure way of escaping Saturn's adverse transits. One should eat only one meal of sweetened wheat porridge. Salt in any form is prohibited.

Offering of milk to Lord Shiva on a Shiv Ling every Monday morning reduces the adverse results of Saturn.

Regular visit to a Hanuman temple on Tuesdays and Saturdays is another easy and effective way.

Recitation of Sunder Kand every Saturday and Tuesday keeps prosperity flowing even during bad transits.

A ring made from a horseshoe removed from the right front foot of a black horse is a potent shield against Sade Sati. If this is not possible, a ring made from a nail removed from the bottom of a boat can also be used. Boat should be in use and not discarded.
Burying a cupful of boiled black lentil to which sugar has been added in a shallow pit is very helpful. This should be done in an area where people won't walk over it.
If Black lentil are not available, honey can be used instead.

These measures may seem bizarre to the modern and material humans but they are rooted in sound physics laws. Each of these measures harnesses a segment of the energy surrounding us and uses it to throw a protective shield around us. Proof of the pudding is in it's eating and any judgment about the efficacy of these measures should be reserved until after their adoption and strict adherence. It usually takes about five weeks for the energy to build up. In forty days one can feel the changes in a tangible form.

Sade Sati is not about doom and gloom. It gives positive results as well. Gain of real estate and expansion of business takes place during this period. A lot depends upon the Dasha and Bhukti (major and sub periods) running in the chart.

Sade Sati, What It Is And How Much Damage Can It Do?

Continuation of the previous Blog....

An Ashtak Varga chart is made for each planet and it gives a detailed picture of how a planet fares in different houses. If a planet gets a low of three and a high of five or six in all twelve houses, his results will be good as he goes around the zodiac. The rule here is higher the number, greater the strength.

What it means is, that for Saturn to give favorable results in a house, he must have at least four Ashtak Varga points there. If he has this strength, the results will be generally favorable even if the transit is through the fifth or the eighth house. The reverse is also true. If Saturn gets a low figure of zero to two in the third, the sixth or the eleventh house from Moon, his results will be poor, even though Saturn gives gratifying results in these houses. To predict the results of a planetary transit without looking at the Ashtak Varg figure is like shooting at a target without bringing it on the cross hairs of a sniper scope. One is bound to miss.

The concept of Vedh

Vedh in Sanskrit language means 'To pierce'. A planet when pierced, loses the capacity to give good or bad results. For the duration of the Vedh period he remains powerless.

A Vedh occurs under certain precisely laid down conditions, and is part of basic knowledge of astrology. When a planet A is transiting a house and there is planet B in another house, then depending upon the position of planet B the results of planet A become pierced or are shot down.

For example we know that Sun gives very good results when transiting the third house from Moon but at the same time if another planet is transiting the ninth house from Moon, Sun will be unable to give any results as the presence of a planet in the ninth house pierces the Sun.

Similarly if Moon transits the fifth house from Moon and there is a planet in the sixth house, the results of the transit of Moon in the fifth house will be nullified.

The exceptions to this rule are Sun, Saturn, Moon and Mercury. If Vedha to Sun is caused by Saturn or vice versa there is no Vedha. Same is the case with Moon and Mercury. In the case of a slow moving planets, a Vedh can last for a long time. In the case of Sade Sati this can be very helpful and must be kept in mind when predicting results.

To be continued.....

Sade Sati, What It Is And How Much Damage Can It Do?

Continuation of the last post....
For people born with Moon in Virgo, Saturn will pass through the Lunar ascendant. His third house aspect will fall on the third house of siblings, cousins and friends. The seventh house aspect will influence the house of sexual relationships and the tenth house aspect will weaken the house of profession and social status. Lets look at the the houses falling eighth from these houses. The eighth from third house is the tenth house. The eighth from the seventh is the second house of wealth and the eighth from the tenth house is the fifth house of children and speculation. All theses houses will suffer erosion, depending upon the strength of Saturn in these houses.

For people born with Moon in Leo, Saturn transits the second house. His third house aspect falls on the fourth house, The seventh aspects weakens the eighth house while his tenth house aspect affects the 11th house. The houses falling eighth from these are the eleventh, the third and the sixth. Results of all these houses will be adverse.

Above is a theoretical assessment of Saturn's passage through the 12th, the first and the second house from Moon. The actual results will be different, and will depend upon a few more factors like Nakshatra, Ashtakvarga and Vedha. We shall discuss each one of these in the coming paragraphs.

Nakshatra

We know that the zodiac is divided into twelve signs. In Vedic astrology, there is a further sub division. The zodiac is divided into twenty seven segments and each one is called a Nakshatra. It is thus an arc of thirteen degree and twenty minutes. Every sign will therefore have some Nakshatra falling in it. Each Nakshatra has a ruling planet and this alters the results of planetary transits taking place in it. Let us understand it through an example. Saturn is now passing through Virgo, a sign which spans three Nakshatra called Uttara Phalguni, Hasta and Chitra. Uttara Phalguni is ruled by Sun, Hasta by Moon and Chitra by Mars. All these planets are enemy of Saturn. His results will be therefore adverse while he transits Virgo. Nakshatra is a very important concept and must be always kept in mind when making any judgment in Vedic astrology.

Ashtak-Varga

Ashtak Varga refers to the strength of a planet and is in reality the measure of support it gets from other planets placed in various houses in a horoscope. The lowest figure a planet can get is a zero and the highest, eight. Most planets give moderately good results if they have three to four Ashtak Varga points. For Saturn a figure below four gives unfavorable results.

Sade Sati, What It Is And How Much Damage Can It Do?

Most people who have some knowledge of Vedic astrology, or have had a reading done by a Vedic astrologer have heard about Sade Sati. It literally translates to English as seven and a half.

Saturn takes two and a half years to travel through a sign. Sade Sati thus refers to his transit through three signs, falling in the twelfth, the ascendant and the second from Moon. This 2.5+2.5+2.5 or seven and a half years period is usually a momentous period in the life of a person and we shall presently see why? We shall however first go through some astrology rules.

Some ground rules of Vedic astrology

Saturn influences the third, the seventh and the tenth house from where he sits in a horoscope. For example if he is placed in the twelfth house, his influence will fall on the second, the sixth and the ninth houses. This influence is termed as an ‘Aspect’

Saturn is a separatist planet and tends to separate a person from the results of the house where he sits. The same is true of the planet he gets associated with. In addition to this his aspects on a house or a house lord signal his virtual presence there.

The house which falls in the eighth from Saturn suffers degrading of its results and becomes weak. For example, if Saturn is placed in the ascendant, the eight house of longevity suffers.

This rule extends to the aspects of Saturn as well. Houses falling eighth from his aspects will also suffer. Let us see how. Consider a case where Saturn is placed in the ascendant. His aspect will fall on the third, the seventh and the tenth house. The houses falling in the eighth from these three houses will lose their power. Thus the tenth, the second and the fifth houses will experience weakness.

It is now easy to see how widespread the effect of Saturn is. At any given moment Saturn influences the house he sits in, the house falling eighth from his placement, the three houses he aspects and the three houses falling eighth from these aspected houses. A total of eight house are thus under his domain at any given time. These results need not be all bad. Some good results will also materialize. It is not for nothing that Saturn is called the planet of judgment.

As Saturn moves around the zodiac these eight houses keep changing. The net results of Saturn’s transit through one house are an aggregate of the individual results of these eight houses.

The transit results of planets in the Vedic astrology system are always taken from Lunar ascendant. What it means in simple terms is, that the house where moon is placed is taken as the ascendant, and the rest of the houses and the planets that are placed in these houses are arranged around it. There are many potent reasons for this arrangement but that is in the realm of a separate article.

At present Saturn is transiting Virgo. Let us consider the case of a person who has Moon in Libra. For this horoscope Saturn is passing through the 12th house from Moon and his Sade Sati has begun. Saturn is now aspecting the second house of wealth, and will separate or disconnect the person from his wealth. This will happen because unexpected expenses hit him out of the blue and make him spend beyond his means. The person will dip into his savings or max out his credit card in the next thirty months.

The seventh hose aspect of Saturn will fall on the sixth house and will help him to overpower his opponents.

The tenth house aspect falls on the ninth house of good fortune and will cause an adverse run of luck. This house deals with spirituality and there will be a distinct move away from it. Finally there will be a rift in relationship with father because the ninth house also represents the male parent.
