How planets affect our lives through Dasha system? Part III

Free Vedic astrology article 2010…
In the example given above Moon at birth was at 25° 10’ in Chitra Nakshatra. That means that out of 13° 20’ allocated to Chitra Nakshatra, Moon had already covered 2° 10’ and had yet to cover (13° 20 – 2°.10’ = 11° 10’.) We know that 13° 20’ of Chitra Nakshatra equal seven years of Mars Dasha. It is now a matter of simple arithmetic to calculate that the remaining 11° 10’ will be equal to 5.8 years of Mars Dasha remaining to be experienced.
If we know the longitude of Moon for any birth, we can easily find out the Dasha operating at time of birth and also how much of it is remaining to be undergone.
The Dasha are comparatively long chunks of time. It is very unlikely that these will give uniform results throughout the duration of their tenure. To examine smaller periods of time we use the sub periods and sub-sub periods of all nine planets. The first sub period is always of the planet ruling over Maha Dasha. That means that the first sub period in the major period of Mars will be of Mars himself. Other planets will rule succeeding sub periods. Similarly in the sub-sub periods the first period will be of Mars himself and the 0ther sub periods will be of Rahu, Jupiter, Saturn etc…..
We would write it like this
Mars/Mars/Mars
                Rahu
                Jupiter
                Saturn
                Mercury
                Ketu
                Venus
                Sun
                Moon
When we reach Moon, the whole of the sub period of Mars has been used up. Now the third level period of Rahu will start and our arrangement will look like this
Mars/Mars/Rahu
                Jupiter
                Saturn
                Mercury
                Ketu
                Venus
                Sun
                Moon
                Mars
It is much like the odometer of a car. The meters change more rapidly than kilometers which change faster than tens and then hundreds of a kilometer.
Method to calculate a sub period
The easiest way to calculate a sub period is to multiply the Dasha years of two planets and put a period (decimal) after the first digit from right. Let us say that we want to find out the duration of sub period of Mars in the major period of Mars. We start by multiplying 7 with 7 and get the result as 49. The first figure on the right is 9 so we put a period (decimal) after it. We get 4.9 so the sub period will be four months and 27 days.
