The transit of Jupiter in Aries and Saturn in Libra is a rare event that happens only once in 360 years. The last time it happened was when the British were setting up shop in India. In 1650 Gabriel Boughton an employee of the East India Company obtained a license for trade in Bengal. An English factory was set up in 1651 at Hugli. We all know what happened after that.

The accepted practice while delineating the effects of planetary transits is to consider these from the birth Moon. It is true for Saturn as well. I am however giving the results of the combined transit of Jupiter and Saturn from the birth ascendant also, and this needs some clarification. 

Jupiter opposite exalted Saturn is always a momentous event because Jupiter who represents the divine law gets in a sign exactly opposite to Saturn who delivers justice. Since Saturn is transiting the sign of scales and is exalted, the justice is fair, just and complete. It is for this reason that I am giving the transit effects of these two planets both from the ascendant as well as the Moon sign or Rashi.

Taurus ascendant 

For Taurus ascendant, the third house aspect of Saturn falls on the eighth house and causes some health issues but these are resolved easily. The eighth house also comes under the aspect of Jupiter in Aries and painted by the combined energies of two massive planets indicates some changes connected to this house. Foreign travel, death, dishonor and scrotum fall under the domain of the eighth house. Depending upon the placement of planets in the horoscope and the Dasha Bhukti in operation, one or more of these effects will manifest. Those desiring travel abroad may find the going easier.

The seventh aspect falls on the twelfth house and promotes prosperity by curtailing expenses.

The tenth house aspect falls on the third house and gives interesting results. The third house is the eighth house from eighth and hence represents poverty. Saturn’s influence thus promotes wealth.

Jupiter is at this point of time is transiting the twelfth house and the sixth as well as the twelfth houses are energized due to the combined energies of Jupiter and Saturn. Both of these thus become ready for a change. Innocent people who have been framed and are languishing in prison will have relief as new evidence is unearthed proving their innocence. Those who have somehow escaped the law will now find a secure place behind the bars.

Relief from some chronic disease is likely for those who have been suffering for long. This may happen as new drugs and procedures are invented. 

Jupiter is a planet of spirituality and twelfth house represents the after world. This transit of two major planets thus signifies some distinct spiritual progress. Saturn represents renunciation and the twelfth house amongst other things signifies Moksha. This will result in an active involvement with Vedanta and Hinduism. Ketu’s movement into Aries in January 2013 will accentuate this trend.

Taurus Rashi- Moon in Taurus

For those who have Moon in Taurus, Saturn transits the sixth house from Moon. Sixth house represents loans, sickness, enemies and scarcity, and Saturn is a planet of separation. His transit therefore removes these negatives and brings in wealth, prosperity and happiness. Victory in legal matters and acquisition of Real estate is acquired during this phase. excellent health. Enjoyment of the company of the opposite sex cause happiness.

Aries Ascendant

Libra becomes the seventh house for those with Moon in Aries. Saturn therefore transits the house of relationships. Jupiter is already transiting the ascendant, and the combined energies of the two major planets are illuminating the house of self as well as relationships. It is therefore certain that some changes in the relationship area are waiting to happen. Those who have been single so far will get the urge and the opportunities to find a partner. An existing friendship may jump to a higher orbit or even marriage.

Jupiter in the ascendant aspects the fifth, the seventh and the ninth houses. Saturn in the seventh also aspects the ninth house, and under the combined energies of Jupiter and Saturn that too becomes pliant for change. A stroke of good fortune is quite possible, as is the likelihood of going on a long journey or pilgrimage. Spirituality attracts you strongly during this phase as the ninth house stands for the father or a Guru. The Dasha Bhukti operating in the chart will give further clues as to the type and manner of the changes.

The tenth house aspect of Saturn falls on the fourth house, and Jupiter is placed in the tenth from it. Although Jupiter does not aspect the fourth house directly, it is nevertheless affected by the placement of Jupiter in the tenth house from it. There may be some changes connected to the place of residence. There may be remodeling for some, while others may change residence.

If the Dasha Bhukti operating in the horoscope is favorable, this transit can bring some deep and lasting changes in life. People with Libra, Taurus, Capricorn and Aquarius ascendants will be more fortunate than others. Gemini and Virgo ascendants will also benefit albeit to a lesser extent.

For those horoscopes where the rising sign is Aries and Moon is placed in the ascendant, the effects will manifest with greater magnitude.

Aries Rashi or the Moon sign

On his own the results of Saturn passing through the seventh houses are good as he gets Paya of copper. He will give receipt of happy news, success in all spheres, gains from government and financial prosperity.

Life partner may suffer from wind related complaints in the stomach. Separation due to one reason or another is likely. Marital happiness is generally lessened at this time. This is not a time for sexual promiscuity and unprotected sex as chances of a sexually transmitted disease are higher now. Driving requires extreme caution especially if traveling long distances.

How will Saturn's transit through Libra affect you?

Saturn will enter Libra on November 15, 2011 at 14.28 hours and it will be a momentous event in every one’s life. For next thirty months Saturn will slowly transit through this sign. Libra is Saturn’s sign of exaltation and Saturn’s significations find their best expression in this sign.

Saturn acts as a channel that brings our past life Karma – both good and bad – to us. Since the planet is transiting his sign of extreme power, the Karma channeled to us will hit us with great force. The good results will be munificent and the bad ones excruciating.

The results of this transit are determined through the Moon chart which is nothing but the birth chart where the Moon sign replaces the birth ascendant. The rest of the signs fall sequentially. For example if Moon is placed in Scorpio, then Scorpio becomes the ascendant in the Moon Chart and the signs following, Sagittarius, Capricorn etc. are copied verbatim from the birth chart. The transit results of all planets are primarily seen from the Moon Chart.

Some simple tools are used to quantify the good and bad results of transiting Saturn. The first of these is the Charan or the feet of Saturn as he enters a house during the transit. Depending upon the fruitfulness of the visit the Charan are termed as Gold, Silver, Copper or Iron. The following table will make it clear. Paya is a synonym for Charan.

Let us use this table for the first Rashi Aries. Saturn enters Libra which happens to be the seventh sign from Aries. From the table we see that Saturn has the feet of copper, and this transit bestows generally good results. All this will happen, but will be tempered by the Dasha Bhukti running in the horoscope at the time. The results will be augmented or weakened by the trends of the planetary period.

There is another method which uses the Nakshatra position of Saturn to gauge his results. This is more accurate as Nakshatra is a smaller segment and one can monitor the changes as Saturn moves ahead.

Find out the Nakshatra that Saturn is currently in, and calculate its distance from the Nakshatra where Moon was at birth. Then look at the result corresponding to that number.

This table is according to the rules laid down by Sripati. Some other scholars have different views.

Let us see how this is done. Let us take a horoscope where Moon is placed in Ashwini Nakshatra in Aries. On 15^th November as Saturn enters Libra he will be placed in Chitra Nakshatra. Chitra when calculated from Ashwini happens to be the fourteenth Nakshatra. The table shows that from 14-17 Nakshatra the results show worry and mental tension, and these will prevail in some measure.

The results of the above two tables may seem at variance with each other but a closer scrutiny will clear the fog. The first table pertains to the two and a half year period while the second one to smaller segments of time. Saturn is constantly moving and the results will keep changing with his motion.

Generally speaking, the effects of transit Saturn are adverse during his movement through the fifth and the eighth house. Let us analyze this in greater detail.

Saturn is a planet of separation and his association or aspect on a planet or a house tends to separate a person from the things associated with that house. In the case of the transit through the fifth house, the presence of Saturn in the fifth house of children, speculation and stomach/uterus creates a problem to all these issues. Children’s health and welfare becomes a concern, and speculation of all sorts leads to losses. One suffers from wind related complaints in the stomach. In the case of women, uterus may become a problem area, and if pregnant, great care is warranted.

The third aspect of Saturn falls on the seventh house of relationships and tends to destabilize it. If married, a person will have a turbulent time. A live in relationship will capsize during this period if the Dasha Bhukti is also adverse.

The seventh aspect of Saturn falls on the eleventh house of financial gains and tends to separate a person from income of all sorts. Financially this becomes a tough time.

The tenth aspect of Saturn falls on the second house of wealth and savings and tends to deplete the bank account. Credit cards are maxed during this phase and there is a steady attrition of the bank balance. Sound sleep becomes a stranger as one gropes for a solution to make ends meet.

In the case of Saturn’s transit through the eighth house, If Saturn is not the lord of the house; this transit causes disease and accidents.

In this case, the third house aspect of Saturn falls on the tenth house and creates a wobble in the professional and social status. The seventh aspect falls on the second house of wealth and causes depletion and attrition of credit card credit and bank balance. The tenth house aspect falls on the fifth house and creates problem identical to those mentioned above. All in all this is a vexing transit.

The discerning reader will at once ask the reason for variance between what has been written here and the results given in the first table given above. The answer is that both will manifest, and the net results will be an amalgam of the two. Life is after all a patchwork quilt of varied past Karmas stitched together.

There is another feature which needs to be considered here and that is house ownership of Saturn in the birth chart, as this too influences the net effects of the Saturn transit.

In a given chart, Saturn will be a neutral, beneficial Yog Karak or inimical planet. If he is beneficial, his exalted transit in Libra will increase his beneficence. For example for Aries ascendant, Saturn placed in the seventh, fourth or the fifth house is considered beneficial. Because Saturn is transiting the sign of his exaltation, this benefit will manifest even more for the next thirty months. Same is true for malefic Saturn. These results need to be assimilated with those obtaining elsewhere.

How is Saturn’s 2011, thirty month transit in Libra for you? Part 1

Saturn will enter Tula or Libra on November 15, 2011, and exit it on 3/11/2014. This is his Uchcha Rashi (exaltation sign) and he is powerful and happy when transiting it. Saturn is considered Paramochcha for the first 20º of Tula (Libra)

Tula spans two Padas of Chitra, four Padas of Swati and three Padas of Vishakha Nakshatra. The fourth Navansh of Swati and the second Navansh of Vishakha Nakshatra are Pushkar Navansh and will give excellent results when Saturn transits over these.

(The fourth Pada of Vishakha and second Pada of Anuradha falling in Vrishchik (Scorpio) Rashi are also Pushkar Navansh and here too Saturn’s results will be excellent.)

Saturn is the channel that relentlessly brings past life Karma to this life. He is the stern judge who shows no mercy. Tula is a Rashi that has the weighing balance as its symbol. When the planet of judgment passes through the sign of balance, it always means that scales will be balanced and justice delivered in full.

Jupiter at this point of time is placed in Aries and aspects Saturn with his seventh house aspect. Jupiter represents the law both divine and earthly. Saturn too aspects Jupiter with his seventh house aspect. The mutual aspect of two major slow moving planets – one representing the law and the other judgment – signifies that the judgment day for the humanity has arrived. In the times to come the justice will be delivered and the wrongdoers punished. Since Saturn signifies imprisonment, it is certain that the corrupt and the crooked will be put away for good.

According to the tenets of Hindu astrology, the transit effects of planets are seen from the Moon. These results are given below and are both good and bad for different Chandra Lagna (Lunar ascendant).

Saturn is primarily a planet of separation and causes a chasm between a person and the significations of the house or house lord which comes under his influence. He gives favorable results in the third, sixth and eleventh house from the Moon. In other houses the results are either neutral or unfavorable. Of the unfavorable results, those pertaining to Saturn’s transit through the fifth and the eighth house are really misery producing.

Passing through the fifth house from Moon, Saturn causes a separation between the native and the happiness on account of children. It can be a physical separation or one caused by disease, injury etc. The third aspect of Saturn falls on the seventh house and disturbs the relationship with the life partner or spouse. The seventh aspect falls on the eleventh house of financial gains and reduces the income. Finally the tenth house aspect falls on the second house of wealth and causes the saved money to be spent. Credit cards get maxed and one is hard put to meet the expenses.

When Saturn passes through the eighth house of longevity, and Saturn is not the lord of this house, there is usually a high possibility of an accident or illness. The third aspect of Saturn falls on the tenth house and curtails professional success. The seventh house aspect falls on the second house of wealth and causes bank balance to be slowly reduced to almost nothing. Finally the tenth aspect falls on the fifth house and causes unhappiness on account of children. Because these two transits are so problematical they are called ‘Kantak Shani’ (Kantak=A thorn, Shani=Saturn)

The three planets of separation
Sun, Saturn and Rahu are three planets that represent separation; in as much as they tend to separate the person from the traits represented by that house. Which ever planet or house they influence, a person becomes devoid of the results of those houses.

The lord of the twelfth house also acts as a separating planet and should be given the same weightage as three planets mentioned above.

Dharm, Arth, Kaam and Moksh

The terms Dharm, Arth, Kaam and Moksh translate as righteous duty, production of wealth, enjoyment of life and freedom from the cycle of birth, death and rebirth. The first house in a chart is the house of Dharm, followed by Arth, Kaam and Moksh in the second third and the fourth houses. This cycle repeats thrice. The ascendant, fifth and the ninth houses become the Dharma houses. The second, sixth and tenth houses become the houses of Arth. The third, seventh and eleventh houses become the houses of Kaam, and fourth, eighth and twelfth houses that of Moksh. Which ever category has the maximum number of planets becomes the over riding concern of the person. Thus if someone has more planets in the Moksh houses, the chances are that s/he will be interested in Hinduism or Buddhism. A preponderance of planets in the Dharma houses will make a person religion minded.

The three Lagna or ascendants
 


We all know that Ascendant is the most important house in Hindu astrology, but equal importance is attached to Chandra (Moon) and Surya (Sun) Lagna as well. Accuracy of prediction demands that results be seen from all the three ascendants and then combined to come to a definite prediction.

Yoga for renunciation

If the Lagna, the second, the fourth and the seventh houses are heavily influenced by any two or more of Sun, Saturn, Rahu and the twelfth lord, a person loses interest in the world and becomes a renunciant. It is important that this happens in at least two out of the three ascendants.

The chart given here is of Swami Ram Krishna Paramhansa who is one of the greatest saints of modern times. Let us apply the rules for renunciation mentioned above to this chart. Venus becomes the dispositor (lord of the sign occupied by Saturn) for exalted Saturn in the ninth house, as also for Ketu in the 4th house. This Venus is placed in exaltation in the second house of family disrupting family life. 

Rahu - a planet of separation - aspects both Venus and the second house from the tenth house. In addition to this Rahu aspects the fourth house of home, and hearth. It must be noted here that Rahu is the dispositor of exalted Mars placed in the 12th house. Saturn placed in the 10th house from Mars also influences it negatively.Rahu thus separates Swami Ji from The domestic life for good.

The seventh house gets the 8th house aspect of Mars while 8th lord Mercury also aspects it. The seventh house thus also becomes afflicted.

Sun, and Moon are placed in the ascendant so all three Lagnas are one and the same. The conditions for renunciation or Sanyas are thus fulfilled from all Lagnas.

If we look at the distribution of planets in the horoscope we see that five planets are placed in Dharma houses, and two in the Moksha houses. The overwhelming majority of planets thus favor renunciation.

There are three exalted planets in the chart and Jupiter is very close to exaltation. The energy of these planets made him a spiritual giant of his time, and he is still revered all over India.

Life is an unending attraction for an overwhelmingly great majority of people. We are all fascinated by the daily soap opera that is dished out to us by our Karmic script. Those of us who have good parents, good relationships and a rewarding career are happy. Dearth of love, caring, money, shelter and food make us sad. We remain completely enmeshed in this bipolar world until our last day on this earth. Then we depart. 

Happiness and sadness comes to us in varying measured based on the Karmic script we wrote for ourselves in our past lives. There are those who might object to this and say, there is no proof of past lives. To those I would humbly like to submit that this article is not meant for them. 

That past life exists is an awareness, and not a conclusion arrived at through conjecture and argument. There is no proof for it. This awareness may come to them in this life or it may not. If it does, the solution to the riddle of life will be one step closer. If not there is always another life.

An extremely tiny minority of people are radically different from most of us. For them the drama of life and its vagaries have no meaning. They watch it but are not attached to it. This tiny group renounces the attraction of home, domestic life, money, luxuries and power. Some may choose to live in the society but remain completely aloof; others may leave their homes and head for secluded place. The sole aim of these people is to connect to the universal spirit and become one with it. Once that goal is achieved one becomes blissful, desire less and any action that s/he performs is not binding. The generation of Karma stops and the endless merry go round of birth and death also comes to a complete stop. 

In India such people are known as Rishis and they have existed in every age throughout the history of time. The opulence of our culture is mainly the gift of these extraordinary men and we owe them a lasting debt of gratitude.

In this article we shall take a look at the astrological reasons for renunciation of society and complete devotion to the universal spirit. We shall start by looking at the jurisdiction of some houses over some specific areas of human life.

The second house in a horoscope represents family, domestic happiness and wealth. 

The fourth house rules over home and hearth, happiness, real estate, mother, masses and society. 

The seventh house represents conjugal happiness through sex. 

The twelfth house represents the specific enjoyment of the pleasure of the bed.

In addition to this, the ninth house rules over spirituality and its lord along with Jupiter and Sun has a big role to play in propelling a person towards renunciation.

 

If Jupiter influences all the rest of the eight planets through aspect or association, he gives a strong inclination towards spirituality. A retrograde Jupiter will aspect the fifth, seventh and ninth houses from the previous house as well.

Jupiter and Saturn In Hindu Astrology

Jupiter and Saturn are two massive planets of our solar system. Both are slow moving and both have a deciding influence on our lives. Saturn takes roughly 30 years to go around its orbit. Jupiter does the same in twelve months. 

Jupiter is the planet of spirituality and wisdom. The Sanskrit name for Jupiter is Guru which translates as large and also as the teacher or preceptor. Jupiter represents Brahmins, finance, expansion, comforts, sons, husband, liver, governmental favor, revenues, elder brother and law of the land. Jupiter has been envisaged as a Brahmin, or some one with pure thoughts and deeds. Jupiter is also the significator of finance and when strong, blesses one with affluence and prosperity. In addition to this Jupiter also signifies male child and husband in a female chart. Weak and afflicted Jupiter in a woman's chart will bring about great misery and unless other planets are strong, the life will be intolerable.

In certain charts Jupiter can become the combined ruler and significator of a house, in which case he has a huge influence on a person. Take for example Aquarius ascendant. Jupiter becomes the lord of the second house of wealth and the eleventh house of income. He thus rules over both houses of value. Now being the significator of money, he becomes a complete representative of the financial situation for Aquarius ascendant. Powerful Jupiter will make such a person hugely affluent. An afflicted Jupiter will do exactly the opposite.In addition to this which ever house lord is associated with Jupiter will also become valuable, or in other words gain in value.
 

Let us consider a female chart with Gemini or Virgo ascendant. In both these cases, Jupiter becomes the lord of the seventh house and represents the husband. Jupiter is also the significator of husband; he therefore becomes a complete representative of husband. If in these two ascendants, Jupiter is strong, well placed and well connected, the marriage will take place to an affluent, loving, kind and considerate person. Afflictions to Jupiter will cause unhappy marriage, and in extreme cases would lead to widowhood. 

Saturn is a planet that brings the results of the past lives Karma to one's doorstep. In many ways it is the exact opposite of Jupiter. Saturn represents darkness, nerves and nervous system, legs, separation, restrictions, renunciation, land, farming and mining. He also represents the masses. For Taurus ascendant Saturn becomes the lord of the 9th and tenth houses and becomes a Yog Karak planet as he rules over a Kendra and Trikon house simultaneously. Similarly for Libra Ascendant Saturn rules over the fourth and fifth houses and becomes a strong Yog Karak. If strong, well placed and well connected, he gives excellent results for these ascendants. (Libra being a little bit more favored one)

Jupiter and Saturn are both very important planets in Hindu astrology. They have a strong influence on humans and they both move slowly. That means that they spend longer times in a Rashi and so their results – whether good or bad – last for longer times. Jupiter gives excellent results in the second, fifth and ninth houses counted from the Moon. Saturn gives favorable results in the third, sixth and 11th house from Moon. There are some periods in life when the results of both these planets are in resonance. When both planets are transiting favorable houses, there is great happiness, celebratory events, high income and enjoyment of life. One literally floats on air. The reverse is also true. With both planets in the unhelpful houses, one feel down in the dump. There is frustration, anger, dejection and sometimes depression. Nothing works smoothly and oftentimes there are problems from the government bureaucracy.

Since Jupiter and Saturn are both very powerful planets, when ever their combined energies fall on a house, that house becomes active and pliant for a change.

Take a look at the horoscope given on the right. On 9 September 2009 Saturn entered Virgo. Jupiter Entered Pisces on 2 May 2010. After this date, Jupiter and Saturn aspect the first and seventh house respectively. The first house already has transit Saturn placed there so it becomes energized due to the combined energies of these two planets. Same thing happens with the seventh house, and both become ready for a change. Now the question is what kind of a change is possible? The first house represents the self and the seventh house the sex partner. Together they represents conjugal happiness. In India where living together is not an accepted social practice, this means marriage; provided that the Dasha Bhukti supports it. The other condition is that two other planets intimately connected to sex – Mars and Venus – are also supportive by doing what ever Jupiter and Saturn have done. Finally the connection between the four planets mentioned above and the fifth house of Poorv Punya and the ninth house of good fortune must exist. At the same time the Dasha and Bhukti - Major and sub periods must be conducive to marriage. If these conditions are fulfilled the marriage will materialize otherwise it will be a brief interlude of consensual sex.
 

Third house aspect of Saturn falls on Scorpio in the third house. Jupiter also does the same with his 9th house aspect. The third house too thus becomes energized and pliant for a change. What does the third house represent? It represents friends, cousins, self effort and self confidence. It could be that a friendship gets converted to something more intimate. It could also mean that a new relationship is facilitated by a friend or a sibling.
 

This rule is universal and can be applied to any house that gets painted by the energies of the two slow moving planets. The Dasha Bhukti running in the chart will be a pointer to what kind of changes can take place.

Ketu and Venus transit this sign from June 06 onwards. Success is likely after some hard work and struggle. Business remains average but money will be available for all expenses. Sudden expenses will cause dismay.

Gemini
Saturn’s tenth house aspect on this sign causes mental tension and sagging health. Financial gains fall short of expenses. You will have to find solutions to complex and tedious problems. Cancer

There is a mismatch between income and expenditure. You will feel agitated and the possibility of loss of self control is high. A quarrel between you and your siblings is not ruled out. Money supply is indeed tight but the beneficial aspect of Jupiter brings about the required money through hard work. You need to be really careful when driving.
Libra
You are undergoing Sade-Sati or the seven and a half year transit of Saturn. As a result you shall face financial problems and wobbly family relationship. The Chart created for 02/04/2011 for the time of toss at 1400 hrs at Bombay is as given below.

In the chart, the ascendant always represents the home team. The seventh house stands for the opposition which in this case is Sri Lanka.

Lagna lord Moon is very weak with only 80% of the minimum required strength. This is basically because of the fact that Amavasya – no Moon day – falls on the third April. Sri Lankan team is represented by Saturn who is retrograde and therefore powerful. The Shad Bal of Saturn is very high at 140%. Saturn is thus much stronger than Moon tilting the balance in favor of Sri Lanka.

In the chart, Moon and Saturn are right opposite to each other. Moon is conjunct with malefics and these same malefics also afflict Saturn by their seventh house aspect.

In the Moon chart, Lagna lord Jupiter is placed in the Lagna itself, and is Neech in the Navansh chart. Mars, Sun and Mercury are also placed there. Unfortunately Jupiter is only 70% strong and it is a big problem. The only glimmer of light in an otherwise gloomy scenario is the presence of two strong malefics Sun and Mars in the ascendant in the Moon Chart. These along with the prayers and energy of a billion Indians can turn the tables. It will however remain an uphill task.

Summing up, Sri Lankan team is the clear favorite in the world cup. However should the toss take place a little later – say at 3 Pm – It will change the Lagna to Leo which will bring Venus in the seventh house and give India a clear shot at winning the cup.

Sunder Kand is the fifth part of Goswami Tulsi Das's Ramayan. It is completely devoted to the exploits of Lord Hanuman as he crosses the Indian ocean to enter Shri Lanka. Regular recital of this Kand (Chapter) removes all problems caused by Mars and Saturn. No matter how deep the trouble, Sunder Kand brings relief and mental peace. Prosperity follows as Mars and Saturn related problems abate.

The best results are obtained by keeping a fast on Tuesdays and Saturdays and subsisting on only fruit juice or dairy products. No salt is allowed and one may eat only porridge at the end of the day. Tea and coffee are okay.
In the morning take a shower, wear clean clothes, sit facing east and light a ghee lamp using a cotton wick. Offer incense and sweets to Shri Ram and then start reading the following passages.
It is an accepted practice to start the recital of Sunder Kand by first reading a passage from Kishkindha Kand. The relevant portion from Doha number 29 to Sortha 30 B is given below.

After the recital is over, one must chant Hanuman Chalisa. Amazing results follow.
It usually takes about two hours to finish reading Sunder Kand if one is reading it aloud. Mental chant is faster. This is beautiful poetry and once understood provides eternal comfort to weary heart and mind. So here it is, the story of Ramayan immortalized through the verses of Tulsi Das

देखिअत प्रगट गगन अंगारा। अवनि न आवत एकउ तारा।।
पावकमय ससि स्त्रवत न आगी। मानहुँ मोहि जानि हतभागी।।

सीता मन बिचार कर नाना। मधुर बचन बोलेउ हनुमाना।।
रामचंद्र गुन बरनैं लागा। सुनतहिं सीता कर दुख भागा।।
लागीं सुनैं श्रवन मन लाई। आदिहु तें सब कथा सुनाई।।
श्रवनामृत जेहिं कथा सुहाई। कहि सो प्रगट होति किन भाई।।
तब हनुमंत निकट चलि गयऊ। फिरि बैंठीं मन बिसमय भयऊ।।
राम दूत मैं मातु जानकी। सत्य सपथ करुनानिधान की।।
यह मुद्रिका मातु मैं आनी। दीन्हि राम तुम्ह कहँ सहिदानी।।

फटिक सिला बैठे द्वौ भाई। परे सकल कपि चरनन्हि जाई।।

मंदोदरी हृदयँ कर चिंता। भयउ कंत पर बिधि बिपरीता।।
बैठेउ सभाँ खबरि असि पाई। सिंधु पार सेना सब आई।।
बूझेसि सचिव उचित मत कहहू। ते सब हँसे मष्ट करि रहहू।।
जितेहु सुरासुर तब श्रम नाहीं। नर बानर केहि लेखे माही।।

राज धर्म तन तीनि कर होइ बेगिहीं नास।।37।।

चौदह भुवन एक पति होई। भूतद्रोह तिष्टइ नहिं सोई।।

जग महुँ सखा निसाचर जेते। लछिमनु हनइ निमिष महुँ तेते।।
जौं सभीत आवा सरनाई। रखिहउँ ताहि प्रान की नाई।।

मैं जानउँ तुम्हारि सब रीती। अति नय निपुन न भाव अनीती।।
बरु भल बास नरक कर ताता। दुष्ट संग जनि देइ बिधाता।।
अब पद देखि कुसल रघुराया। जौं तुम्ह कीन्ह जानि जन दाया।।
दो0-तब लगि कुसल न जीव कहुँ सपनेहुँ मन बिश्राम।

तब लगि बसति जीव मन माहीं। जब लगि प्रभु प्रताप रबि नाहीं।।
अब मैं कुसल मिटे भय भारे। देखि राम पद कमल तुम्हारे।।
तुम्ह कृपाल जा पर अनुकूला। ताहि न ब्याप त्रिबिध भव सूला।।
मैं निसिचर अति अधम सुभाऊ। सुभ आचरनु कीन्ह नहिं काऊ।।
जासु रूप मुनि ध्यान न आवा। तेहिं प्रभु हरषि हृदयँ मोहि लावा।।
दो0–अहोभाग्य मम अमित अति राम कृपा सुख पुंज।
देखेउँ नयन बिरंचि सिब सेब्य जुगल पद कंज।।47।।

समदरसी इच्छा कछु नाहीं। हरष सोक भय नहिं मन माहीं।।
अस सज्जन मम उर बस कैसें। लोभी हृदयँ बसइ धनु जैसें।।
तुम्ह सारिखे संत प्रिय मोरें। धरउँ देह नहिं आन निहोरें।।

क्रोधिहि सम कामिहि हरि कथा। ऊसर बीज बएँ फल जथा।।
अस कहि रघुपति चाप चढ़ावा। यह मत लछिमन के मन भावा।।
संघानेउ प्रभु बिसिख कराला। उठी उदधि उर अंतर ज्वाला।।
मकर उरग झष गन अकुलाने। जरत जंतु जलनिधि जब जाने।।
कनक थार भरि मनि गन नाना। बिप्र रूप आयउ तजि माना।।
दो0-काटेहिं पइ कदरी फरइ कोटि जतन कोउ सींच।
बिनय न मान खगेस सुनु डाटेहिं पइ नव नीच।।58।।

सभय सिंधु गहि पद प्रभु केरे। छमहु नाथ सब अवगुन मेरे।।
गगन समीर अनल जल धरनी। इन्ह कइ नाथ सहज जड़ करनी।।
तव प्रेरित मायाँ उपजाए। सृष्टि हेतु सब ग्रंथनि गाए।।
प्रभु आयसु जेहि कहँ जस अहई। सो तेहि भाँति रहे सुख लहई।।
प्रभु भल कीन्ही मोहि सिख दीन्ही। मरजादा पुनि तुम्हरी कीन्ही।।
ढोल गवाँर सूद्र पसु नारी। सकल ताड़ना के अधिकारी।।
प्रभु प्रताप मैं जाब सुखाई। उतरिहि कटकु न मोरि बड़ाई।।
प्रभु अग्या अपेल श्रुति गाई। करौं सो बेगि जौ तुम्हहि सोहाई।।
दो0-सुनत बिनीत बचन अति कह कृपाल मुसुकाइ।
जेहि बिधि उतरै कपि कटकु तात सो कहहु उपाइ।।59।।

नाथ नील नल कपि द्वौ भाई। लरिकाई रिषि आसिष पाई।।
तिन्ह के परस किएँ गिरि भारे। तरिहहिं जलधि प्रताप तुम्हारे।।
मैं पुनि उर धरि प्रभुताई। करिहउँ बल अनुमान सहाई।।
एहि बिधि नाथ पयोधि बँधाइअ। जेहिं यह सुजसु लोक तिहुँ गाइअ।।
एहि सर मम उत्तर तट बासी। हतहु नाथ खल नर अघ रासी।।
सुनि कृपाल सागर मन पीरा। तुरतहिं हरी राम रनधीरा।।
देखि राम बल पौरुष भारी। हरषि पयोनिधि भयउ सुखारी।।
सकल चरित कहि प्रभुहि सुनावा। चरन बंदि पाथोधि सिधावा।।
छं0-निज भवन गवनेउ सिंधु श्रीरघुपतिहि यह मत भायऊ।
यह चरित कलि मलहर जथामति दास तुलसी गायऊ।।
सुख भवन संसय समन दवन बिषाद रघुपति गुन गना।।
तजि सकल आस भरोस गावहि सुनहि संतत सठ मना।।
दो0-सकल सुमंगल दायक रघुनायक गुन गान।
सादर सुनहिं ते तरहिं भव सिंधु बिना जलजान।।60।।
