Nakshatra - the template of our lives Part V

Free Vedic astrology article

In the previous Blogs we have talked about what Nakshatras are and how they work. In this and the coming Blogs we shall study their direct effect on human body and mental characteristics.

Ashwini (Beta Arietis)

Ashwini born are very calm and quiet people who get their work done without any fanfare. They are inflexible and stubborn and if the ascendant falls in a Sthir Rashi, they may be unbearable. They are very loyal people and stick by their friends and family. Usually they are reticent and patient, but a devil when provoked. Their actions are slow and deliberate and take place after a careful look at all facets of a problem.

They are spiritual by nature but they are not religious. They are intelligent but lack mental peace. Association with malefic planets, can make them indulge in smuggling, deceit, and trickery. They are usually not successful before their 30th year. There is continuous progress thereafter. They love their family but usually this love is not reciprocated. The root cause of this is their inflexible nature. There is generally no help and benefit from the father. Maternal side and outsiders however step in with help. Health is generally good.

Women are well endowed and have a figure which is a sight for sore eyes. They like elegant jewelry and clothes. They are adept in the art of love making and are very enthusiastic about it. For a successful and happy life, they need to curb their impatience, ego, temper and tongue.

Likely diseases for the Ashwini born are migraine, fever, head injuries, insomnia, epilepsy, malaria and smallpox.

Bharani (41 Arietis)

People born in Bharani are of medium height, have thin hair, a large forehead, bright eyes, bushy eyebrows and well set teeth. Face and neck are long. Head is broad at the forehead and tapers to a narrow chin. If the birth takes place around noon, they may be quite tall. They have a well developed appetite for sex, and are keenly interested in art, photography, and religion. Bharani born can have friends who belong to the riff-raff of society and thus may invite unwanted trouble for themselves. They are however adept at defeating the designs and machinations of their enemies.
Women are generally beautiful and have a voluptuous figure. They are bold and direct and come straight to the point. They are successful business women and do very well running their own show. They often outshine their husband. They may gain excess weight because of their tendency to tickle their taste buds. It is very difficult for a Bharani woman to go shopping and come back without indulging her taste buds. They are very fond of luxuries and material gains and may stop at nothing to attain their goal. This can become a source of trouble and notoriety. One interesting thing about Bharani women is their liking for expensive lingerie. They have a nice collection of it and know how to use these to maximum advantage.

Likely diseases for Bharani born are high fever, influenza, skin diseases, nervousness and phlegm related diseases. Women may have some problem with their reproductive system.

Nakshatra - the template of our lives Part IV

Nakshatra and names
Each Nakshatra has a particular vibration corresponding to a few root alphabets of Sanskrit and it is customary in India to give the new born a name that starts with that seed sound. This creates a harmony between the basic vibrations prevailing at birth and those connected to uttering the given name. For example the first Nakshatra Ashwini has seed sounds of Choo, Che, Cho and La. Accordingly a child born in Ashwini Nakshatra will have a name like Cheney, Chauncey, Chonsey, Chelsey etc.

There is another great advantage of giving names according to birth Nakshatra, in as much as that it immediately designates the Moon sign of the person. Once this is known a lot of information is instantly available.

For example let us take the case of a person with a name Varun. The moment I hear it, I know that the person has Rohini Nakshatra and Taurus Rashi (moon sign). I know also that being a Rohini born, the subject has a razor sharp intelligence and quick grasp of the subject matter. I know for a fact that he does well scholastically and has at least a collage grade education if not more. How do I know that? I know that because Moon becomes exalted in Taurus. Moon represents mind and exaltation of moon represents a high quality mind. The subject has an attractive and well formed body and is able to attract the opposite sex easily – in this case women. He will have a number of love affairs. The fact that he is a Rohini born also tells me that he is always dressed in expensive and beautiful clothes. The fortune will fluctuate throughout life and the constitution will not be robust. The Period between 18-36 will be trouble some.

For Taurus ascendant, Saturn is transiting through the fifth house so right away I know that the person is having huge financial problems and has no money left. I also know that his credit cards are maxed.
Jupiter is transiting the eleventh house since May 02, 2010 and since then the person has had some wiggle room financially. Before that the finances were precarious indeed.

Sun is passing through the 5th house so there are some issues and unhappiness connected with the son. Mars in the sixth helps financially but Venus placed in the same house indicates accidents during journeys. Rahu in the 8th house can send him abroad and also help financially.

All this information is available without even looking at his horoscope. It is for this reason that when ever I study astrology, I send a fervent prayer of gratitude to our ancient Rishis who have bequeathed such an advanced culture and a wonderful system of making prediction to us. There is nothing else that comes even close.

Nakshatra - the template of our lives Part III

Free Vedic astrology article

The best use that Nakshatras are put to is in making predictions, using the minute descriptions that they give about the nature and characteristics of people born in those Nakshatras. When we say people born under a Nakshatra, we mean people whose birth Moon is in that particular Nakshatra. We shall use an analogy to make this point a bit clearer.

Believe it or not, for a large majority of human beings their residential address defines their social status. It gives a lot of information about the income potential and their place in the social hierarchy.

If you are a close friend of the guy who lives at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, number 10 downing street or that large palatial estate at Raisina hill in new Delhi, you are surely an exalted person. If you know all three, you are bound to be some one special living at a special address yourself. Addresses may not make human beings but they sure define them.

Now it is true that people living in a given locality will be of diverse colors, age groups, professions, religious and political views but they have all a common thread running through them. They are similar in many ways and will have similar income levels. This will be true for the majority. We are not considering the exceptions.

This is true of the Nakshatras as well. The moment you know a person’s Nakshatra, you know a lot about him/her right away. Without looking at the horoscope, you can access a lot of information about them. This happens because people born in a given Nakshatra display a number of characteristics that are similar. It is true that different ascendants and the placement of planets in the chart will influence the individuals a great deal but the basic pattern will not differ.

Let us randomly take Ashlesha Nakshatra which is the last Nakshatra of the first group and ends with the last degree of Cancer. They are generally not very pleasant people and are not grateful to anyone, not even those who have really helped them in their times of need. Their outward show of sincerity is just that – a show. There is a strong desire for leadership and power and they do not care how they attain it. They are talkative and have a way with words. Is it any wonder they become very successful politicians.

Another characteristic of these people is that they keep good relationship with the local thugs, and do not hesitate to use them if an occasional arm twisting is required.

This is a thumbnail sketch of Ashlesha and is an accurate description for an overwhelming majority of Ashlesha born. It will be difficult to find an Ashlesha born who differs very much from this template. The apple never falls very far from the tree.

Let us take another example; this time of Ardra Nakshatra. These people are highly  responsible. Any work given to them will be done exactly as it was meant to be. They are humorous and witty and have the knack of keeping people happy. Their relationship with their friends and relatives is very cordial. Despite all these good qualities they are thankless to those who have helped them. They have a changeable nature and are best as print, radio and TV journalists.

They are highly intelligent people and their knowledge is encyclopedic. They know something about every subject. However this quality remains useless as they neither are able to earn money nor fame because of this. They are very sincere in whatever they do, so much so that any problem which prevents them from giving their best is a source of mental anguish to them.

Married life is generally not very happy. It is generally delayed. If it takes place early then either job compulsions or difference of opinions between husband and wife cause separation. One thing is however definite. Whatever happens, no hint of their marital problems is visible to an outsider. Their spouse rules over them.

We mentioned three characteristics above. Sincerity, intelligence and unhappy marriage. This is the common thread running through all Ardra people. There is a fourth one. They are financially comfortable but real wealth eludes them. The template of life called Ardra will show these qualities every time.

In the next Blog; thumbnail sketches of Nakshatras.

Each Nakshatra is ruled by a planet which defines the character of that Nakshatra. At the time of birth, which ever Nakshatra Moon happens to be transiting becomes the birth Nakshatra and the planet ruling the Nakshatra becomes the Maha Dasha lord. Depending upon the degree of Moon in that Nakshatra the Maha Dasha or the Major Period of that planet is determined. The duration of the Maha Dasha is calculated by finding out how many degrees The Moon has traveled in that Nakshatra. Technically speaking, the birth Nakshatra helps us to set the human biological clock of the new born to zero so we can start measuring the time lapsed and match it to the planetary periods running in the chart to make correct predictions.

Nakshatras can be grouped in different ways. One classification is done on the basis of the suitability of different Nakshatras for different purposes. Suppose I want to do something which is of a long term nature like buying land, planting seeds, getting new clothes etc. I would get the best results if I did these activities when Moon was in Dhruva (Immovable) Nakshatras like Rohini, Uttar Phalguni, Uttar Ashadh or Uttar Bhadra. Similarly activities of a quick nature like selling something, dating, a walk in the park, sexual intercourse would be best done under Kshipra (Fast moving) Nakshatras like Hasta, Ashwini, Pushya and Abhijit.

The following table explains it all.
