It has been seen in 60% charts of cancer patients that Saturn and Mars were in mutual aspect . In most of these charts, the signs Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces along with Libra were afflicted by malefics. Of these Libra and Scorpio which are the signs of debilitation of Sun and Moon were especially involved. It seems that affliction of these two signs somehow triggers growth of Cancer.

In a majority of cases, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn were in a Yoga through aspect, conjunction and placement in each other’s sign. Jupiter represents glandular growth and spread and the influence of Mars and Saturn on him causes abnormal growth of certain type of cells.

Sun is the father of the solar system. The Neech placement of Sun in Libra, and further afflicted by placement in Trik houses (6, 8, 12) was found responsible for cancer. The union of Neech Sun with Trik Lords, Mars and Saturn played a leading role.

In 100% of the cases, union of Saturn, Rahu, Mars or Ketu through placement or aspect on the eighth and ninth Navamsa which happens to be Capricorn and Aquarius was the cause of cancer.

The Rog Saham in all charts was afflicted by Malefic planets.

Vedic astrology and cancer Part - I

What is cancer?
Cancer is a disease caused by an uncontrolled division of abnormal cells in a part of the body. This growth may manifest as a lump or tumor. In all types of cancer, some of the body's cells begin to divide without stopping and spread into surrounding tissues. Cancer can start almost anywhere in the human body, which is made up of trillions of cells.

Cancer according to Ayurved In Ayurved, cancer is known as Karkat and is believed to be caused by an unnatural life style. Increased use of processed foods and food preservatives is a leading cause of Cancer. Excessive load on the digestive system is also responsible to a great extent in the spread of the disease as it causes the toxins to spread in the body through blood. These toxins accelerate the abnormal growth of certain body cells leading to malignancy.

Astrology of CancerCancer is a slow and stealthy disease and is directly connected to slow moving malefic planets like Rahu and Saturn. Rahu is considered to be a major contributor and his union with a house, house lord and the Karak of that house often leads to cancer in the part of body connected to that house.

For example if the second house or its lord are afflicted by Rahu and Saturn, the Karak Jupiter is weak and badly placed in sixth eighth or twelfth houses, the part connected to the second house – the mouth – can become cancerous.

· The lord of the sixth house rules over disease. If this planet is placed in the Lagna, eighth or tenth house and makes a union with Rahu, it indicates the possibility of cancer. Rahu’s aspect or presence in 6, 8, 12 houses and the lord of the Trik houses uniting with the Bhav, Bhavesh and Karak of causes cancer in the part connected to that house.

·Different planets act as Karak or significator for different houses. For example, Affliction of Sun indicates cancer of digestive system and brain.

·Afflicted Moon causes Leukaemia and breast cancer.

·Mars gives cancer related to bone marrow, uterus and reproductive system

·Mercury causes cancer of nose, navel and mouth.

·Jupiter produces cancer of ears, tongue, liver and thigs.

·Venus gives cancer of reproductive system

·Saturn that of gums legs and hands. If Saturn and Mars are connected in some way and Saturn is also connected to the eighth house, possibility of cancer increases.

For two partners to be having the same Nadi is considered undesirable. It brings disharmony in relationships. If both have Adi Nadi, there is usually a separation, Madhya Nadi causes losses and Antya brings about extreme sorrow.

For the sake of simplicity, we can say that Nadi refers to energy field generated by our bodies and people of same Nadi have problems living in close proximity, sleeping and living together.

Incompatible energy fields or aura has an indirect effect on ability to have children as well. Nadi gets the highest number of points – a total of eight – and is considered extremely important in compatibility matching.

Remedies
Remedies are dependent on the analysis of the chart. Infertility is a result of the past life negative Karma. If the karma is “Dridh” (immovable) the remedies do not work. For “Adridh” (removable) karma the chanting and other remedies usually help.

If the fifth house lord is weak, combust or otherwise afflicted by Saturn, Rahu, Ketu or Mars, he loses his capacity to facilitate conception and delivery.

Placement of the fifth lord in the sixth, eighth or twelfth houses also causes the same problem.

Saturn, Rahu, Ketu or Mars placed in the fifth house or aspecting it singly or severally also cause infertility.

Jupiter is the Karak (significator) for the male child and should be placed in strength. Similarly Venus is the significator for girl child and she should not be weak or afflicted.

Venus also signifies sperm and her strength indicates reproductive ability in a man. Strong Venus gives a healthy sperm count and sperm motility. Her weakness causes weakened libido and impotency.

The remedies will thus lie with strengthening the fifth lord, and reducing the effect of malefic planets. It would be erroneous to wear representative stones of afflicting malefics like Saturn, Mars, Rahu or Ketu as these will only aggravate the problems by strengthening the negative energy. The remedy will lie in pacification through Mantra and rituals.
 

Putra Kameshti Yagya
This is a fire ceremony which a couple performs together. It is performed by chanting of relevant mantras and offerings of various herbs mixed with clarified butter (ghee).
This Yagya is very effective and removes the past life negative Karma which puts obstacles in getting children. One has to find the right Brahmin priest to do it. Charlatans abound in India and one must be careful in the selection of the right person.

Role of modern medicine
Modern science is now capable of increasing female ovulation through appropriate drugs. The eggs are then harvested and fertilized by male sperm in a laboratory. The fertilized eggs are then implanted either in the uterus of the woman desiring to be a mother or in another woman who agrees to become a surrogate mother for a fee. Delivery can be natural or through a cesarean section.

Artificial insemination is a remedial measure far more invasive than wearing a gemstone or chanting Mantras. It will work for “Adridh” Karma generated infertility. “Dridh” Karma is irremovable and in such cases the sperm will be unable to play its intended role. If that happens, the sperm of a donor is usually needed. In this case however the real father of the child is someone unknown, proving the point about “Dridh” Karma for the legal father.

For females
 

In a female chart we add together the longitudes of Mars, Moon and Jupiter, and remove the multiples of 360º. The sign thus arrived at is called Kshetra Sphuta or the longitude of the ground. If the Kshetra Sphuta falls in an even sign and is nourished by conjunction or aspect of benefic planets, there is strength in the female to conceive.

In both cases malefic planets like Saturn, Rahu, Ketu and Mars should neither be conjunct nor aspecting these sensitive points. In addition to this, these planets should not fall in the fifth from the Beej and Kshetra Sphuta points.
It is also important that these points do not fall in signs rules by Saturn, Sun and Mars.

When analyzing the causes of infertility, the horoscopes of both partners need to be studied minutely. Beej and Kshetra Sphuta should be worked out and compared. This gives a pointer to the riddle as to which partner needs remedies.

Compatibility – The Asht Koot system
Vedic astrology has the famous Asht Koot system of finding compatible partners. It has an inbuilt system of making certain that a couple will be able to enjoy satisfying sex and have children together. After all this is one of the primary goals of getting married. Unless someone is an ascetic, enjoyment of life remains uppermost on every one’s agenda.

The system looks for eight parameters when comparing horoscopes and gives a mathematical strength to each. In a perfect match the two charts will have a maximum of thirty six points. This is an ideal condition that is rare. The maximum I have seen is thirty four.

The eight parameters mentioned above are Varna, Vashya, Tara, Yoni, Grahmaitri, Gana, Bhakoot and Nadi. In a separate article we shall go in detail about every one of these, but the needs of the present one are satisfied with only two. The Yoni and the Nadi. Yoni is a Sanskrit word and imperfectly translates as Vagina. It refers to the mentality of partners as also to matching of their bodily desires and reproductive organs. Yoni is important and gets a total of four points. Four out of four in two charts is ideal but is seldom achieved.

Nadi refers to the three Nadis or energy channels that connect the Sahastrara (the thousand petaled Lotus) to Mooladhar Chakra or the root chakra. These three Nadis are called Adi, Madhya and Antya and correspond to Ida, Sushumna and Pingla.

Infertility – A Vedic Astrology insight into its causes and cure.

Children are a source of joy, contentment and much happiness (at least until they become teenagers!) Those of us who are blessed with this gift of nature take it as a norm and don’t feel much grateful about it. A tiny percentage of us who is unable to have children undergoes a lot of mental anguish because of it.

In the case of males the inability to have children is genarally due to a problem connected to sperm count and sperm motility. In the case of females, the reproductive system is more complex and there can be a number of reasons for not being able to conceive, or carry full term and then deliver the baby.

The fifth house in a horoscope rules over children. The strength of the fifth house, the fifth lord and the significator for children (Jupiter for male and Venus for female babies) determines whether a couple is blessed with children or not.

If these factors mentioned above are strong, the conception and delivery will proceed without any complications. In case the fifth house and the fifth lord in a female horoscope are afflicted with planets like Mars and Ketu, the delivery will take place after medical intervention. Caesarian section births are often caused by Mars or Ketu's influence acting on the fifth house and fifth lord. Post delivery complications also stem from this root cause. Even otherwise their affliction to the fifth house causes irregular menstruation and indicates chances of injury to uterus.

For Sagittarius Lagna (Ascendant) Mars placed in the fifth house in Aries does not make one free from the affliction mentioned above.

In the case of males, Venus rules over semen and sperms. If Venus is combust (burnt due to close proximity with sun) or otherwise afflicted with Saturn and Rahu, it suggests that everything is not right with semen. Combustion reduces the sperm count and motility. Rahu-Saturn duo causes other defects in sperms rendering these unfit to fertilize an egg.

Our sages have given us methods to deduce if a couple is able to have children. One important technique is called and Beej and Kshetra Sphuta, loosely translated as “The seed and the soil assessment” This is carried out separately for the male and female charts. It is important that this be done prior to marriage to weed out matches which appear non congenial for getting children.

For males
In the case of a male we add the longitude of Sun, Venus and Jupiter and divide the total by 360. The remainder gives us a sign called Beej Sphuta or the longitude of the seed. If Beej Sphuta occupies an odd sign and an odd Navansh and is strengthened by position, conjunction or aspect of benefic planets, there is strength in the seed and the person is virile.

We have seen that Lagna Lord when placed Neech or afflicted in a horoscope causes disease. Here is a list of all seven planets when they become Neech in a house.
 
Sun
Sun as Lagna Lord becomes Neech in the 3rd house. Third house symbolizes hearing, so a person will suffer hearing loss.
 
Moon
Moon as Lagna Lord becomes Neech in the 5th house. Her weakness will cause stomach related ailments.
 
Mars
Mars as Lagna Lord can become Neech either in the 4th house or the 9th house. In the first case he brings about chest complaints. In the second he causes disease in the lower back and hip region.
 
Mercury
Lagna Lord Mercury can become Neech only in the 7th or the 10th houses. In the 7th house he causes disease in the urinary tract. In the 10th house he causes no distress as he becomes powerful in the 10th house. Still if the affliction is severe due to proximity of Mars, Saturn or Rahu, there will be disease in the knees.
 
Jupiter
Jupiter as the Lagna Lord placed Neech in the second house causes mouth related disease. As the lord of Pisces Ascendant (Lagna), in the 11th house he causes problems connected to legs, provided there is some affliction. Without affliction he causes no problem.
 
Venus
Venus as Lagna Lord can become Neech in the 5th house, in which case he causes stomach related disease. In the 12th house the disease occurs in the feet.
 
Saturn
Saturn as the lord of Capricorn becomes Neech in the 4th house and cause chest complications. As the lord of Aquarius the Neech placement takes place in the 3rd house. In this case the health issues crop up in the wind pipe and lungs.

Lagna Lord and disease

We know that every planet is the significator (representative) of one or more body parts. When a planet becomes a Lagna Lord, his ability to represent that body part increases manifold.

Let us take an example of planet Mars. Mars represents bone marrow as well as the flesh. As a Lagna Lord he represents the flesh more strongly as bone marrow forms only a small part of body in comparison. Here is the complete list.

Sun: Bones, Moon: Blood, Mars: Flesh, Mercury: Skin, Jupiter: Body fat, Venus: Semen, urine and eyes. Saturn: Nerves. If a planet is placed Neech or in 6,8,12 houses or is severely afflicted by the influence of Mars, Ketu, Saturn and Rahu, he will cause a disease in the body part he represents.

When ever a planet is placed in Lagna, he symbolizes the factors that he is representative of; with great vigor. For example Sun denotes the bone structure in a horoscope. If Sun is afflicted, it is indicative of some problems connected to bones. This is however not a certainty, only a guess. However if this afflicted Sun is placed in the Lagna, the possibility of bone injury increases manifold. It increases still further if Sun is connected to Lagna Lord or Moon. This happens as Sun affects the body represented by Lagna Lord, or Moon directly.

Let us take another example. Mercury represents skin. If Mercury in a horoscope is afflicted, it is indicative of a skin disease. This indication assumes a serious proportion if Mercury is placed in Lagna and is some how connected to Lagna Lord or Moon. If Sun also joins Mercury, skin disease becomes a certainty.

We have seen before that Lagna represents the human body in its totality. If Lagna Lord becomes “Neech” or debilitated, he presents a real possibility of disease in the part that the Rashi in Lagna represents. This very logical as Lagna is our body and the Rashi represents the body part.

This principle can be further extended with very interesting possibilities. Every planet rules over one house or another. Each house represents one relative or another. If a planet is placed “Neech” in the chart, the relative connected to that chart will develop a problem connected to the body part which that planet represents. Let us amplify it with an example.

Consider this scenario where we have Cancer ascendant and 11th lord Venus is placed “Neech” in the 3rd house. 11th lord represents the elder sibling. Since The Rashi in the 11th house is female and Venus is a female planet, she represents the elder sister completely. 11th house thus becomes the Lagna for the elder sister. Lagna Lord Venus is placed Neech in the third house which happens to be the fifth from 11th. Fifth house represents stomach so stomach ailment for the elder sister is indicated.

Mercury is the ruler of the third house and becomes the lord of the fifth house for the elder sister. Mercury is placed in the company of Sun and Saturn in the fourth house which is the sixth house of disease for the elder sister. Venus is the lord of this sixth house and exchanges places with the fifth lord Mercury. It is now certain that the elder sister will have severe affliction in the stomach area. She developed cancer of the stomach. We can thus diagnose a disease for any relative from a person’s horoscope.
 
Incidentally this also proves the basic premise of Vedic philosophy that our parents and family we are born in is not a random event but an outcome of our Karma done in past lives. We and our horoscopes are closely intertwined.

Continuation of the previous Blog……

We saw in our last Blog that increasing affliction to a Rashi (sign), house and house lord, causes increasing risk of injury to the body part indicated by that combination. If many factors in a chart pointing to an organ are under stress, it is a certainty that it will be injured. If in a horoscope, the ninth house and its lord are afflicted by more than one malefic, it is a certainty that the thigh bone or Femur will be injured. In addition to this if Sagittarius and Jupiter are also afflicted, it is guaranteed that there will be a severe trauma to the Femur itself or to the two joints it connects to – the hip and the knee.

This concept is open ended and can be extended to any body part. If the 11th house and its lord are afflicted and at the same time, sign Aquarius and Saturn are also distressed, damage to the auditory organs and loss of hearing is certain to occur.

In a female horoscope, the fifth house represents the children and child bearing capacity. By extension it represents uterus and the reproductive system. If the fifth house and its lord are afflicted and Leo and sun are also connected to planets like Mars and Saturn, natural delivery of a child becomes suspect. A strong Mars aspecting the fifth house/lord is seen to cause complications during child birth. Medical intervention becomes a must in such cases. If the affliction is caused by Saturn and Rahu, there are undiagnosed causes for infertility and self abortion.

The use of Sudarshan Chakra method

We have seen so far the genesis of disease in a horoscope. If the planetary placements indicating a disease occur in the Moon and Sun chart as well, the event will take place with even greater vehemence. The simplest example of this is a chart in which sun and Moon are placed together in Lagna. What ever happens in the life of such a person, will happen with full force. The good and bad will come to pass with full intensity.
 

The example of sun and Moon both occupying Lagna is a basic one. In real life one needs to examine the sun and Moon charts separately and see if the indications of an event in the birth chart are echoing in these two as well.

The correlation between Lagna and disease

Lagna in Vedic astrology is the most important part of the horoscope as it represents the body. Without body we are just an electromagnetic entity with successive layers of soul, causal and astral bodies (please refer to Blog Happiness through Yoga- Sep 20) It is the flesh and bones body which makes us humans and allow us to perform Karma. Lagna thus embodies our whole being.
 

When ever a planet is placed in a Lagna, he becomes an effective representative of whatever he is significator of. If that appears to be a mouthful, let us digest it piecemeal in the next Blog.

Medical astrology – How Vedic astrology connects to medicine? Part I

Vedic astrology assigns the twelve signs to successively represent all parts of human body. Starting from Aries, the first sign represents head. Taurus the second sign represents face, Gemini the shoulders and lungs. Cancer the fourth sign stands for the chest and so on. Here is a complete list.

Aries: Head, Taurus: Face, Gemini: Lungs, Cancer: Chest, Leo: Stomach and heart, Virgo: Intestines and kidneys, Libra: reproductive system, Scorpio: Scrotum and testicles, Sagittarius: Hips, Capricorn: Knees, Aquarius: lower legs and Pisces: Feet.

For Taurus Lagna, things will become some what different. Now the houses and the Rashi are different so one will have to be careful in deciphering the results. The results of the house, the Rashi and the Rashi lord will all have to be merged together.

The signs of Zodiac are termed as Rashi in Sanskrit and this is the term we shall use henceforth. If a Rashi and its lord (Ruling planet) are afflicted, the body part corresponding to it will develop problems. Let us define affliction in some detail before we proceed further. Saturn, Mars, Rahu and Ketu are natural malefic planets and when ever these combine with a Rashi or Rashi lord there is a problem generated. In addition to this, the lords of the sixth, eighth and 11th houses also cause negative results. This is called affliction. There may be some cases where only the Rashi is afflicted. In other instances, both Rashi and its lord may be afflicted in which case it becomes more serious. A still worse scenario is where the affliction is caused by a number of malefics.

Let us understand it through an example. Think of an imaginary horoscope with Gemini Lagna (ascendant) and Rashi Lord Mercury placed in the 8th house. Saturn is placed in the sixth house in Scorpio, while Mars is in the Ascendant. Mars afflicts the ascendant as well as Mercury through his 8th house aspect. Saturn also aspects Mercury with his 3rd house aspect from the sixth house. Mercury is thus in a bad shape. He and his Rashi are both afflicted by two prime malefic planets while he himself is placed in the 8th house. In this case there will be severe health problems connected to body parts ruled by Mercury. Lungs and intestines both become prone to complications.

The Lagna rules over the head so Mercury as the Lagna Lord wears more than one hat and represents the head as well. Mars is the planet of injury so it is certain that there will be a trauma to the head. Since Lagna represents the early part of one’s life, the injury will take place in infancy or early childhood.

Similarly if the second house and the second lord are both afflicted the injury will be to the face and neck. This scheme can be further extended to all houses.

Swine Flu

Swine flu is caused by H1N1 virus which is the mutated form of pig influenza virus. A flu stricken person displays symptoms like fever, cough, sore throat, body ache, head ache, chills and fatigue. The 2009 infection may cause diarrhea and vomiting as well.
Like all viral infections, it is a battle between the virus and the body’s immune system. People with a strong immunity will not be infected. This immunity may be natural or acquired through a flu shot.
Pandemics are not uncommon for humanity. We all know about the plague that savaged Europe in the middle ages and killed hundred of thousands of people. Then there was a flu pandemic in US it self just before the first world war. That too took a huge toll of population.
Time to take a small detour
The interesting thing to note is that a lot of people remain unaffected even at the peak of the scourge. Why does that happen? Even in the current times studies have been done on truck drivers to check their response to HIV virus. The results were remarkable. A sizable number of these people were regularly exposed to the virus but remained healthy. Apparently this group had a strong resistance to the virus.
The health of an individual squarely depends upon the strength of his ascendant and the planet ruling over it. If both are powerful, the person will have a strong and attractive body. This is true of both sexes. Such a person will have strong, digestive, respiratory, circulatory, execratory and reproductive system. Her immunity to disease will be remarkable.
Healthy people have a strong aura which can extend up to a foot from their skin all along their body on all sides. Its color will depend upon their personality type. You would know these people by the way you react to them. They engulf you in a warmth which exudes from their core. One gets carried away for the duration of the meeting. This too is the gift of the strong ascendant lord. He sends so much energy to the physical body that it extends beyond the human body.
Coming back to the topic of swine flu, it is obvious that we must take all steps that boost our immune system. Ayurved has prescribed some herbs that do just that. Following remedies will prove very helpful in prevention and cure of swine flu.
1. Drink tea made from Tulsi (holy Basel) and Giloi. This strengthens the lungs and the mucous membrane and makes these immune to viruses.
2. Boil a teaspoonful of turmeric with milk and drink it when warm. Surprisingly it tastes quite good. It has excellent anti bacterial properties and removes Kapha (phlegm) from lungs.
3. Pranayam (especially Anulom -Vilom) and meditation help indirectly. These reduce stress which is the main culprit in lowering immunity.
4. Keep digestive track clear by reducing meat and increasing vegetables in everyday diet.
