2012 – The Mayan And Hindu Calendar- Is it the end of the world? Part IV

Continuation of the previous Blog . . . . . .

The Mayan long count calendar only talks about the end of the days which does not imply the end of the days of humanity on earth. This is a misunderstanding caused by the Biblical interpretation of the end of days meaning the end of life on earth.

End of days really means the end of systems, policies and malpractices that benefit a few while harming a multitude of humanity. In the last fifty years the so called developed nations have poured more pollutants in the eco system than the rest of the world did since the beginning of life on earth. This was done to create a life style that is in total conflict with ecology. Industrialization has overloaded the ability of earth to renew itself, and earth has responded by a slow denial of its bounties. Global warming is just one of the results of reckless and irresponsible industrialization.

Excessive reliance on cheap oil by the west has pumped millions of tons of pollutants into our eco system. The present social model where a car becomes indispensable for every human being is extremely wasteful. Oil has become an addiction which is driving the engines of war for the past fifty years. Two middle east wars were fought not only to keep cheap oil flowing to the west, but also to control access to emerging industrial giants like China and India. The present opening gambit against Iran on the chess board of middle east is a step in the same direction.

The genetic manipulation and modification of major life sustaining crops and their patenting has been going on for some time now. Genetically modified food grains can not be used as seeds for the next crop. The modification done to the grain denies it the ability to germinate. The farmer has to depend upon the company that supplies the seed for every crop.

The seeds are patented so there is no legal recourse. Genetic manipulation is a way to bring agriculture all over the world under the control of a few transnational corporations.

The problems do not end here. Genetically modified crops can affect the naturally growing crops in the vicinity. This is done by pollinating vectors like bees and other insects which carry the genetically manipulated pollen to natural crops. Over a period of time the seed obtained from natural crops will also lose its capacity to germinate. This opens the gate to the worst possible exploitation of humanity by a few corporations. Over a period of time the food resources of the world will come under the control of a chosen few nations.

The genetically modified crops are so manipulated that they are resistant to most pests and plant diseases except one or two. The company which produces the GM crop also manufactures the insecticides for that particular infestation. The insecticide is also patented. The farmer has not only to buy the seeds, he also has to buy the insecticide from the same company.

Genetically modified foods are not free from health risks either. The genes that are incorporated in the seeds come from bacteria and other sources which can manipulate the human genome and cause great harm over a period of time.

These are just a few of the problems that humans are encountering. Every one of these is the result of human greed and desire for domination. If humanity is to evolve further, these barriers must go. The end of the days thus means the end of days of exploitation of majority by a minority. It also means the end of the days of the ability to project power through violence and economic means.

To people who are strongly mired in materialism, the ideas mentioned above should appear laughable. There is no surprise there. Just fifty years before Roman civilization breathed its last, the very idea of its pending doom would be a matter of derision for most Romans. Who ever thought in1939 that Hitler would die a pitiable death in a bunker in 1945.

2012 is just three years away, and when it is over, things will never be the same again. They will be much better.

Concluded.

2012 – The Mayan And Hindu Calendar- Is it the end of the world? Part III

Continuation of the previous Blog . . . . . .

So where are we now?
At present, we are fair and square in the early phase of rising Dwapar Yuga and this is the time of rising consciousness. The evidence of it is all around us.

In recent past, Yoga and meditation have been accepted and assimilated in highly conservative societies of North America and Europe. Medical science which had so far treated the human body as an assembly of organs interconnected by plumbing is beginning to understand that there is more to our body than mere flesh, bone and gristle.

Hindu philosophy firmly believes in distributed intelligence in all organs of the body under the overall command of our mind. This was laughed away. Now with transplanted hearts, the patients and the physician are both finding out that the memories of the donor are indeed transferred along with the donated organ, and that the brain of the recipient is able to access that memory.

Hindu ideas of super-consciousness, space, time and matter are also finding slow but steady acceptance. These fundamental principles of creation were widely known in the Satya Yuga but were lost during the slow downward slide of intellect in the past Kali Yuga. Rising Dwapar is once again bringing these ideas to fore.

The humanity riding this spaceship called earth is steadily moving towards a much higher consciousness than has been imagined till now.

What about the chaos everywhere?

Time of transition is always chaotic, any one who has remodeled a home while residing there knows it! As the old gives way to new, some readjustments need to be made. Some old structures have to be dismantled so new one’s can replace these. Change is life and life is change.

What we see around us is the result of rising consciousness of humans everywhere. People and countries who have natural resources of energy and matter, and have not been paid a fair price for these are beginning to question the inequitable system.

World religions control the minds (and pockets) of vast number of people. As consciousness rises, these followers are questioning the hold of a few religious leaders over their affairs. The leaders are responding by more rigid and fundamental interpretation of the scriptures to keep their flock in line. Any one who has studied the major world religions in the recent past knows that fences have been going up everywhere.

The exploitation of world resources by the west and their use of every stratagem to maintain the status quo was successful initially but has been giving dwindling returns in the recent past. As long as a tiny minority continues to consume a major part of the resources of this world, peace can not be restored.

The economic and religious strife that envelopes the world will not go away until a fair and just system replaces the present one.

What is in store in 2012
Unlike the movie by the same name, the earth is not going to be destroyed on Dec 21, 2012. On the contrary, we are assured of an accelerated growth of spirituality and consciousness everywhere. One thing is sure though, everything that stands to thwart this process will be reduced to nothingness.

The west will lose its leadership in the world affairs. After 2012, its ability to influence world events through money or violence will be gone. The extremely wasteful economic model that the west swears by will crumble, never to rise again for next many thousands of years. Gone too will be the dream of multinational companies to control world resources at any cost and profit from it.

Some calamitous events will certainly take place but these would be more by way of course correction rather than a fundamental change of direction. Humanity will not only survive, it will thrive.

It would be wrong to call 2012 a cataclysm for humanity. In the long term it will be Calypso time.

2012 – The Mayan And Hindu Calendar- Is it the end of the world? Part II

Continuation of the previous Blog. . . .

Let us analyze what Manu says. The length of the Satya Yuga is 4000 years with a buffer of 400 years on either side. This buffer is the Sandhi or junction where the effect of one Yuga fades away and of the other begins to hold sway. The total length of Satya Yuga is therefore 400+4000+400= 4800 years.

Treta Yuga is the next Yuga to follow and using the logic mentioned above its duration turns out to be 300+3000+300= 3600 years.

The other two succeeding Yugas are Dwapar and kali and their extent works out to be 200+2000+200= 2400 years and 100+1000+100= 1200 years respectively.
The grand total of 4800+3600+2400+1200 comes to 12000 years.

Our Sun orbits around a grand center called Vishnu Nabhi, which is the seat of universal intelligence. During its journey around Vishnu Nabhi when Sun comes closest to it, Dharma becomes the driving force of humans. Our proximity to the universal intelligence allows each and everyone of us to fully comprehend the reality of this creation, and remain plugged in to universal intelligence at all times.

As Sun begins to move away, our knowledge begins to fade away in direct proportion to our distance from Vishnu Nabhi. In this way Treta and Dwapar Yuga see the steady diminishing of human intelligence until it reaches its lowest level in Kali Yuga.

As Sun moves forward in its orbit, it begins to move towards Vishnu Nabhi and once again the human intellect begins to grow. It ultimately reaches its zenith in Satya Yuga. This cycle keeps repeating itself.

The movement of the Sun away or towards Vishnu Nabhi is indicated by the equinoctial point. When the autumnal equinox is in Aries, Sun is nearest to Vishnu Nabhi, and when it is in Libra, Sun is farthest from it (Vishnu Nabhi). This refers to the position of the equinoctial point and has nothing to do with the movement of Sun through the Zodiac.

In 11501 BC the autumnal equinox was on the first degree of Aries. At this point the Sun began to move away from its position closest to Vishnu Nabhi or grand center to its position farthest from it. This movement set in motion the very slow and imperceptible decline in the mental virtue of humans. The intellectual power of man began to diminish.

In the next 4800 years we lost  the power to grasp spiritual knowledge.

In the following 3600 years during the Sun’s journey through the descending Treta Yuga the human intellect lost all power of grasping the divine magnetism.

In the succeeding 2400 years of the journey of the Sun through the descending Dwapar Yuga the intellect became more clouded and humanity lost the ability to understand the existence and nature of five electrical energies.

Finally in the last 1200 years of the Kali Yuga the intellectual power became so weak that nothing about the creation could be understood.  Only gross material level of existence was known to us.

Adding 12000 years to 11501 BC we reach a figure of 499 AD. The period around 500 AD was indeed the darkest part of kali Yuga and of the whole cycle of twenty four thousand years. Even a cursory study of the history of dark ages reveals – barring a few pockets of light - the cruelty, ignorance and animal like existence of people all over the world.

To be continued. . . . . .

2012 – The Mayan And Hindu Calendar- Is it the end of the world?

There are a number of misconceptions regarding the approach of Dec 21, 2012. The concept of end of days commencing on this date is taken from ancient Mayan calendar. Let us take a closer look at it.

The Mayan calendar is based on the premise that Sun is not a stationary star, and that it revolves along with the solar system around a fixed point in our galaxy called the point of light. One complete orbit of Sun around this fixed point takes 25625 years. One complete cycle is called a galactic day and is divided into two halves of 12812.5 years. These are called day and night.

Mayans also divided the galactic day of 25625 into five segments of 5125 years each and assigned specific symbolism to each segment.

The first cycle was called galactic morning. This refers to the point when our solar system is just coming out of darkness and is about to enter light.

The second cycle was called mid day. During this second cycle, our solar system comes closest to the central fixed point called the point of light.

The third cycle represents afternoon. During this phase, our solar system begins to come out of the light and move away towards darkness.

The fourth cycle is the late-night, and at this point our solar system has reached furthest from the central light.

The fifth and the last cycle is the period before dawn. During this phase our solar system is in its final years of darkness before starting again. This is the cycle that we are currently coming out of.

The Hindu Vedic calendar

With only some minor variations the Hindu or Vedic calendar which predates Mayans by a few thousand years states exactly the same thing. Here is what Manu Smriti (teachings of sage Manu) says.

Four thousand years is said to be the Satya Yuga. Its morning  has as many hundreds, and its evening is of the same length. (400+4000+400 = 4800).

In the other three ages, with their morning and evening twilights, the thousands and hundreds decrease by one. (i.e. 300+3000+300 = 3600 and so on…).

That fourfold cycle comprising twelve thousand years is called an Age of the gods. The sum of a thousand divine ages constitutes one day of Brahma, and of the same length is its night. Manu specifically mentions earth years.

In our next Blog, we shall go into the simple math of it. . . . .
